A humor meditation. A body sweep meditation. And a RAIN meditation.
These three practices will be introduced tonight when the Hailey Public Library presents “Finding Balance on the Slippery Slopes of Life,” the final evening in the library’s Mindful Living in Challenging Times series.
The program will start at 5:30 p.m. tonight—Thursday, Jan. 28--via Zoom. Get the link from Kristin.fletcher@haileypubliclibrary.org.
“The mindful living series was envisioned as one way the Hailey Public Library could contribute to the well-being of our community during the challenges of the pandemic, fears around personal health, concerns about the economy and political turmoil,” said Kristin Fletcher, the library’s programs and community engagement coordinator. “The response has been tremendous.”
Dr. Paula Seikel, former clinical psychologist at Idaho State University’s Counseling and Testing Service, will guide participants in a RAIN meditation. RAIN stands for recognizing what is happening, allowing the experience to be there just as it is, investigating and nurturing with self-compassion.
Mary Ann Chubb, a 40-year resident of the Wood River Valley, will lead a mindfulness ad humor meditation. A longtime mindfulness facilitator with the Flourish Foundation, she facilities a local group practice in Ketchum.
Kristin Fletcher will lead the body sweep meditation, inviting you to move your attention through any bodily sensations you are feeling and experiencing in order to reconnect to yourself. She attended her first 10-day silent mindfulness meditation retreat in 1988 and estimates she has logged more than six months in silent retreat since. She also has taught meditation classes at Idaho State University and Hailey.
