The show will go on this summer. And not virtually.
Alasdair Neale, the music director of the Sun Valley Music Festival, confirmed Tuesday night that the Music Festival is making plans to get back to some semblance of its live, in-person music festival in late July and August.
“We are absolutely eager to come together in Sun Valley for live performance,” he told those tuning in to a virtual Upbeat with Alasdair lecture. “We are not planning to do a virtual music festival at this point. We’re going to do our damndest to go live. Our goal is to make our live music safe, comfortable and fun for everybody.”
In fact, housing hosts received emails this week asking if they would be comfortable in opening their homes to orchestra musicians as they have in the past. And at least a couple of the musicians have indicated they are raring to get back to Sun Valley.
In the meantime, if you need a lift or inspiration as the world awaits a return to somewhat normal through the vaccine, take a page from Alasdair.
Asked what composer he turns to when he’s feeling down, he said: “You can never go wrong with Bach.”
