Registration is now open for summer reading programs for all ages, including adults, at The Community Library and Hailey Public Library.
Kindergarteners through sixth graders could win a Kindle Fire, a Toy Store gift card or a bike by reading a minimum of 500 minutes this summer in the Tails and Tales program. Middle school and high school students could win Airpods or cash. And adults 18 and older will receive raffle tickets good for prizes by filling out a “Read Fearlessly Passport.”
Adults, for instance, will receive tickets to enter drawings for gift certificates at local businesses and a grand prize of a dinner on the veranda of the historic Ernest and Mary Hemingway House overlooking the Big Wood River with one of The Community Library’s Writers-in-Residence.
Summer reading will take place between June 14 and July 30.
The reading program is designed to keep children from losing their skills over summer while school’s out. Studies show that those in read six books over summer score higher in reading and math when they return to school.
