The top 450 cross-country skiers in the country will be competing today and Sunday on the Lake Creek ski trails just north of Hulen Meadows.
Spectators will see a particularly strong women’s field that includes 2018 Olympic racer Rosie Brennan, said Rick Kapala, head coach for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation’s Nordic program.
The 2022 Sun Valley Nordic Invitational is a joint competition of Intermountain Cross Country, the Rocky Mountain Intermountain Ski Association and the USSS Super Tour. The FIS and USSS sanctioned event is hosted by the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.
- On Saturday, Jan. 15, the races will be freestyle or skate ski with an interval start beginning at 9:30 a.m.
In addition to the women’s race, there will be Men’s 10 K, Boys 5K, Boys and Girls 3K-U14, and Boys and Girls 2K U12.
- On Sunday there will be a classic distance mass start beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the Men’s 15K for SR, U20, and U18.
It’ll be followed by the Women’s 10K, Girls 5K, Boys 5K, Boys, 3K, Girls 3K, Boys 2K and Girls 2K.
The prize money will include $750 for first-place finishes.
There will be a refreshment stand on the premises, but bring greenbacks, as it’s cash only.
