STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

McLaren Automotive, the British luxury supercar and hypercar maker, will be showcasing its newest model—the McLaren Artura—at the 5th annual Sun Valley Tour de Force, which will be held July 21-23.

The car is the brand’s first-ever High Performance Hybrid supercar. It is built on the all-new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture and features an all-new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with an E-motor and energy-dense battery pack.

Car lovers will be able to see the car up close at the free 2022 SVTdF Car Show from 5 to 8 p.m.  Friday, July 22, at Festival Meadows on Sun Valley Road.

All the cars participating in the next day’s high-speed event on Highway 75 will be on display, as well.

Passes for drivers for the Huckleberry Scenic Drive and other events open May 16 at www.sunvalleytourdeforce.com

Those who wish to enter show worthy cars in the Car Show may also go to www.sunvalleytourdeforce.com.

Sun Valley Tour de Force will not be selling pit passes for spectators to watch the high-speed event near Phantom Hill, as the SNRA has denied the SVTdF application for a Special Events permit.

Spectators will be allowed to view the event, which sees cars going more than 200 miles per hour, from Phantom Hill. But, without a permit, there will be no hosted restrooms, tents, bleachers, food trucks or shuttle services as there were for earlier events. And no parking is allowed on the highway between Cathedral Pines and the Wood River campground.

Other events include the scenic Huckleberry Drive from Ketchum to Smiley Creek Lodge, hosted sponsor events, test drives and the Cars & Comedy dinner and comedy show.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Hunger Coalition. Last year the event raised $175,000 for The Hunger Coalition—enough to provide 5,500 grocery carts full of food for those in need.

“This March our healthy food pantry saw its second busiest month of all time,” said The Hunger Coalition’s executive director Jeanne Liston. “We are tremendously grateful for the continued partnership with SVTdF. The money raised will go a long way in building long-term solutions that will help more folks in our community thrive.”

Sun Valley Tour de Force is produced by Intrepid Events, Inc., a 501c3 that aims to offer unique experiences while giving to causes in the community.
