STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Bellevue artist Anne Jeffery recently donated $700 to the Liberty Theatre Company to support the theater company’s fundraising campaign to raise funds to refurbish the Liberty Theatre so it can reopen again.

The theater company’s Claudia McCain drew the winning ticket, which went for one of Jeffery’s pieces of art, which involve photographs of botanicals, birds and wildflowers that she assembles into montages.

The Liberty Theatre Company’s Executive Director JD McDonnell has pledged to match up to $3,000 for all ticket sales for the Saturday, Sept. 3, performance of “The Hound of the Baskervilles” for the campaign.

The Liberty Theatre Company must raise $1.7 million by Dec. 31, 2022to perform structural renovation to shore up the building, which was built as a movie theater during the Depression years. Of that, $1.2 million will help with renovation and providing HVAC modifications to satisfy post-pandemic industry standards. The remaining will provide an endowment to ensure the ongoing care of the building.

To date, the Liberty Theatre has raised about $850,000 in donations and pledges.

Donations are tax deductible. To learn more, call McDonnell at 208-582-8384. Or, visit https://www.libertytheatrecompany.org/the-liberty-building.

SEE Dr. WATSON IN ACTION

This is your last chance to catch the Liberty Theatre Company’s rambunctious telling of “The Hound of the Baskervilles”—Arthur Conan Doyle’s telling of Sherlock Holmes’ investigation of a monstrous beast terrorizing the moors.

The rollicking spoof directed by Neil Brookshire showcases Aly Wepplo, Jessica Mayne and Audra Honaker in a fast-paced comedy that would make even the sober Sherlock Holmes’ head spin.

The show takes the stage at 7 tonight and Saturday at the Wood River High School Performing Arts Theatre at Hailey’s Community Campus before concluding at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4. A talkback with the actors will follow the Sunday performance.
