POEM AND PHOTO BY ED NORTHEN
The sky darkens
resembling a black hole
a blackness once known
when the earth was in chaos
before the divine command
“Let there be light”
when light entered
splitting the black void
of the cosmos
a gift from which
all life emerged
through eons of time
but darkness rebelled
against the light
even when light became incarnate
now that light hangs
in loves full glory
outstretched on a cross
not by happenstance
not by the will of men
but of God
who outstretched
is dismantling
unseen realms and powers
as the redemptive words
“It is Finished”
are uttered
