It was a day for Hot Dogs this past Friday—and we’re not talking ballpark dogs.
Three dogs dressed as hot dogs paraded down 4th Street in Ketchum as J.McLaughlin hosted a Halloween Pet Parade.
“Our dog is really more of a filet mignon, but the hot dog will do for today,” said Lily Schreder.

The parade was the culmination of a Sip n’ Shop event benefitting Mountain Humane that included Prosecco and appetizers, sugar cookies in the form of ghosts and treats for the dogs, including fold-down water dishes, poop bags stuffed in small plastic fire hydrants, soft dog toys and nibbles.
“It’s so much fun to do something different in slack. Tons of our customers have dogs and it’s fun to support Mountain Humane,” said store manager Sarah Howe.
The dress shop had a rack of loaner costumes, including clown costumes, a royal king costume and a Miss Piggy costume. One dog dressed as Carmen Miranda; another, a pirate, and another as a prison inmate.
“It’s fitting. He steals things and he escapes from the yard,” said Kris Dudenakis of her year-old Bichon.

Stephanie Eisenbarth, senior development director for Mountain Humane, said Mountain Humane loves events where people can dress up dogs in costumes, noting that there will be another opportunity when Mountain Humane holds a Paw ‘n Pole the third weekend of February.
“It’s something everyone can get into, and we appreciate the work Sarah has gone to for this,” she said. “We just want people to know that we’re more than adoptions. We have a pet food bank, we offer behavioral training for pets and we have veterinary care that’s open to the public.”
Carolyn Atkinson dog Ivy was among the hot dogs.
“I love this,” she said. Sun Valley is a real dog community so I just love that we do something like this.”
