Some of Giacomo Puccini’s most memorable melodies will hit the silver screen on Saturday when Sun Valley Opera and Broadway presents the Metropolitan Opera’s live Simulcast of “Tosca.”

The live cinema transmission will start at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Merlin’s Magic Lantern in Ketchum. It runs 3 hours and 30 minutes—about time for three buckets of popcorn, which you can purchase at the concession stand.

Norwegian Soprano Lise Davidsen will make her Met debut as the volatile diva Floria Tosca in the melodrama about a volatile diva, a sadistic police chief and an idealistic artist. Tenor Freddie De Tommaso will play Tosca’s revolutionary lover Cavaradossi, and powerhouse baritone Quinn Kelsey will star as the police chief Scarpia.

A story of passion and jealousy, “Tosca” tells the story of Tosca’s fight to save her lover from the sadistic police chief after her lover escapes prison and seeks refuge in a church in Rome. It premiered at the Teatro Constanzi in Rome in 1900 and contains such iconic songs as “Vissi d’arte” (”I lived for art”) as she asks why God has seemingly abandoned her.

The fast-paced musical thriller seems as relevant today as it ever did. And the music promises to be electrifying with Met Music Director Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducting the score.

Merlin’s Magic Lantern is a credit card-only business.
