New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Nathan Hale will present a free comic book workshop for kids from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Hailey Town Center West.

Hale, who authored and illustrated “Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales” series, will show kids how to write and create short comic strips. Then he’ll show some of the comics on the big screen.

The workshop, presented by Hailey Public Library, is geared towards fourth- and fifth-graders, but all ages are welcome.

Hale’s “Hazardous Tales” series includes “Donner Dinner Party,” “Big Bad Ironclad,” “Alamo All Stars,”  “Apocalypse Taco,” “The Mighty Bite” and “One Trick Pony.” He also is the illustrator of the “Rapunzel’s Revenge” series, its sequel “Calamity Jack” and “Frankenstein: A Monstrous Parody.”

A resident of Provo, Utah, he grew up in Sundance, Utah, the child of ski instructors who would read fantasy stories to their children. He started out painting displays at a natural history museum, and was inspired to create his own graphic novel series after being asked to illustrate “Rapunzel’s Revenge” in 2011.

His book “One Dead Spy,” about the life of Nathan Hale during the American Revolutionary War led him to create a series of books explaining the Underground Railroad and other historic moments in time through a hilarious lens.

He is currently The Community Library’s Writer-in-Residence at the Hemingway House. He conducted a workshop at The Community Library last week and will lead a workshop for students at Wood River Middle School today.
