Want to know more about the city manager form of government that some citizens are proposing for the City of Ketchum?

Dr. Stephanie Witt, a professor in the Master of Public Administration and Political Science at Boise State University, will discuss the differences between the Strong Mayor and City Manager styles of government at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Ketchum’s Community Library.

She will also address such things as why local governments exist, their responsibility to citizens, the different forms they take and where their funding comes from.

“This is one of the major questions in front of Ketchum voters this fall, and we are eager to help people more objectively understand what these different styles of government are,” said Martha Williams, The Community Library’s director of programs and education.

“Dr. Witt will be an excellent guide in deepening our understanding of these options from a non-partisan perspective. From her decades of research, she’ll also help us examine larger questions about the role of city government in our everyday lives.”

Witt is also the director of Training for the School of Public Service at BSU and the former editor of the Social Science Journal. And she has served as Department Chair, Associate Dean and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at BSU.

Her recent publications have focused on civility in state legislatures, the collision of culture and governance and governing cities in uncertain times.

To save a seat, RSVP at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/15217570. The program also will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/5399561 and recorded for later viewing.
