Sun Valley Music Festival Music Director Alasdair Neale, will offer a sneak preview of Brahms’s “A German Requiem” on Friday.

Neale will discuss what is Brahms’s largest composition at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at The Community Library.

The Sun Valley Music Festival Orchestra will perform “A German Requiem”  at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at the Sun Valley Pavilion. The free concert will feature Soprano Christina Pier, Baritone Benjamin Appl and the Logan, Utah-based American Festival Chorus directed by Craig Jessop.

Despite its name “A German Requiem” is full of messages of comfort and hope. Brahms wrote the piece following his mother’s death in 1865.

It established his international reputation and has become among the most beloved works in his repertoire. It offers consolation to the bereaved evoking a spiritual journey from sorrow to joy.
