Higher Ground is hosting its sixth annual Blood Drive to honor volunteer Steve Adam today--Tuesday, May 6--in the Boiler Room in Sun Valley Village.
Adam, who passed away several years ago, was one of Higher Ground’s favorite volunteers, loved by Higher Ground participants, staff and other volunteers, said George Caton, who organizes the drive each year.
“In addition to being a great friend, as a PhD. psychologist, Steve was able to give significant psychological help to many of our Higher Ground participants. Steve is greatly missed by all of us,” Caton added.
To sign up to donate, go to https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/donation-time?zipSponsor=83353.
If all appointments have been taken, email George Caton at wtcaton@gmail.com to be placed on the standby list.
“Every year we have cancellations and no shows,” Caton said. “Email me your phone number and email address and you will be called when vacancies arise.”
The Red Cross must collect about 250 units of blood in Idaho every weekday to meet patient needs. Last year blood drives in Idaho collected over 90,000 units of blood. Although only 3 percent of Americans donate blood, one in seven patients entering a hospital will need a blood transfusion.
