Hailey historian Rob Lonning will offer a free Walking Tour of Historic Hailey from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.

Lonning, author of “Images of America-Hailey,” will kick the tour off with a discussion of the late Martyn Mallory’s historic images of Hailey on display at the library. He will follow it up with a tour along 1st and 2nd Avenues.

The tour is free.

Hailey was founded in 1881 and named after John Hailey, a two-time Congressional delegate from the Idaho territory who brought sheep to town. Other notables include Olympic medalist Debbie McDonald, Olympian Chase Josey, tennis legend Mats Wilander, football player Shane Carden, and Paralympian Muffy Davis.

The poet Ezra Pound was born in Hailey; Bruce Willis and then-wife Demi Moore moved to town in 1988 and spent millions of dollars revitalizing The Mint, Shorty’s Diner, historic Liberty Theatre and other properties.
