The Wood River Wolverines boys soccer team handed the Vallivue High School Falcons a 5-0 shutout at Columbia High School in Nampa Saturday to win the state championship.

It was payback as the Vallivue Falcons had defeated Wood River in last year’s 2024 state championship game.

The Wolverines staged a come-from-behind victory in which they were down by two goals against Sandpoint to advance to the finals of the Idaho 5A Boys Soccer championship on Friday. Vallivue had beat Twin Falls.

“We worked very hard for this moment and I think it’s well deserved,” senior center back Mateo De La Torre told KMVT news. I love all my brothers and we treated the season like we’re going through it like a family and that’s exactly what we did and that’s what helped us win.”

The Wood River Wolverines have won four state soccer titles. Their last state championship came in 2023 over Sandpoint.
