Walk through a magical art gallery where every work of art dances right off the wall when Footlight Dance Centre presents “Masterpieces in Motion: Exploring Visual Art Through Dance.”
The free performance will start at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at the Wood River High School Performing Arts Theater in the Community Campus in Hailey.
Twelve Wood River High School advanced dancers, ages 14 through 18, will bring to life famous artworks through ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip hop under the direction of Mackenzie King, the artistic director of Footlight Dance Centre.
Each choreographed piece is inspired by the creativity of such painters, photographers, sculptors and street artists as French impressionist Edgar Dega known for his depictions of Parisian ballet, and American pop artist Andy Warhol.
"This performance demonstrates how different art forms can inspire and illuminate each other," said King. "Our dancers have worked incredibly hard to capture the essence of these iconic artworks and translate them into movement that tells a story.”
The young dancers have been presenting the show at local elementary and middle schools.
