This seems to be shaping up to be a robust year for the wild peony, the red wine-colored flowers hiding underneath a canopy of green.

The Sawtooth Botanical Garden’s free Wildflower Walks will start up this coming Thursday.

Free walks will occur every Thursday from May 7 through July 9, with the exception of May 14.

Wildflower enthusiasts are invited to rendezvous at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden at 9 a.m. From there they will carpool or caravan to a spot where the naturalists have identified a robust display of flowers.

Children under 14 are welcome, provided they’re accompanied by an adult. But leave your dogs home to hold down the fort.

Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots appropriate for some trail walking, as well as jackets appropriate for changing weather, sun protection, water and lunch.

The walks will be conducted on easy to moderate trails and will be led by naturalists, birders and botanists.
