Sun Valley’s U.S. Alpine National Championships-A Look at the Action

Sunday, April 9, 2023

Sun Valley’s Bald Mountain is too steep to host a downhill race, believe it or not.

But the resort’s race crew, groomers and 200 enthusiastic volunteers showed what a stellar show they can throw together as Sun Valley Resort hosted the 2023 Toyota U.S. National Alpine Championships this past week. Local Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation skiers Jack Smith and Finnigan Donley finished fourth and fifth in the Men’s Super G, with Donley stepping on the podium as the winner of the U21 National Championship in that event.

And SVSEF’s Dasha Romanov won a silver medal in the Women’s Slalom, earning a giant box of Idaho spuds along with her medal.

Eye on Sun Valley’s Karen Bossick takes you to the slopes in today’s video featuring video and photographs by Taylor Smith, John Boydston, Karen Bossick and Michael Hobbs. P.S. If you missed this year’s action, the national championships will be back at Sun Valley in 2024.
