More than 600 gymnasts from throughout Idaho will take part in the Idaho Xcel State Championships from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2, at Wood River High School.
The gymnasts represent all levels of competition.
The event is hosted by Spirit n’ Motion Athletic School. Tickets at the door cost $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors 60 and older and $5 for preschoolers. Children 2 and under will be admitted free.
There will be food, vendors and raffle baskets and prizes.
The competition includes vaults, bars, beams and floor exercises.
Junior competitors start warming up at 8:15 a.m. and seniors at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. All ages will take part in the afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m. The 26 most advanced gymnasts will compete Saturday night. Other advanced gymnasts will compete Saturday afternoon
Spirit n’ Motion, which was founded 14 years ago, hosted the state championships in 2019. This year’s competition is twice as big, said school director Amanda Wilson.
“We have 33 local athletes from beginning to advanced. Everyone has to prequalify out of 780 gymnasts so you’ve got the best of the best competing to go on to regionals in Washington in April.”
