Go “Day Dreaming in the Solar System.” Then head to the Sawtooth Botanical Garden for a Night Under the Stars tonight.

Dr. John Moores, author of “Daydreaming in the Solar System,” will broach the ideas of  surfing Saturn’s rings, golfing on the moon and other adventures using data from past robotic endeavors in space from 5 to 6 p.m. tonight—Saturday, April 5.

The free presentation will be held at Hailey Town Center West, 116 S. River St. It will be followed by a Stargazing Party at 8 p.m. at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden.

The two events are sponsored by the Hailey Public Library in partnership with the Idaho Dark Sky Alliance and Boise State University.

Moores is an associate professor in the Centre for Research in Earth and Space Science at York University in York, Neb. He served as the Science Advisor to the President of the Canadian Space Agency from 2022 to 2024 and received the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute’s McCurdy Award.

He has written more than a hundred articles in planetary science and been a member of five NASA and ESA-led space mission teams. His book “Daydreaming in the Solar System,” which he co-wrote with Jesse Rogerson, takes readers on a journey through the solar system in a creative manner.

“The inky-dark of our Wood River Valley skies allow us to delight in the beauty of the stars and imagine what lies beyond our planet,” said Lahela Maxwell, the Library’s marketing coordinator. “We are excited to partner once again with IDSA, BSU and the Sawtooth Botanical Garden to host these talks and offer a chance for us all to see the planets in a whole new way.”
