A Rainbow Duck Race, lawn games, all ages-music and educational speakers will highlight the annual Pride in the Garden on Saturday, June 14.
The festival will be one of three Pride events held during the fifth annual Sun Valley Pride.
Saturday’s free Pride in the Garden is designed for the entire family with the Pride Ride bike parade at noon.
North Valley riders will meet in the north lot of St. Luke’s Wood River Hospital between 11 a.m. and noon to decorate their bikes. South Valley riders will meet between 11 a.m. and noon for bike decorating at East Fork.
Employees of Sun Valley Resort will be at both rendezvous points with decorations sporting rainbows and unicorns for cyclists to use.
At noon the two groups will proceed in a colorful parade along the BCRD’s Wood River Trail, converging on the Sawtooth Botanical Garden at the Gimlet Road intersection.
Pride in the Garden will feature dance performances, a Pride Bike raffle and a concluding dance-off, in addition to the duck race, lawn games, music and speakers. Food will be available for purchase from Despo’s new Tater Trailer food truck, along with nonalcoholic beverages, margaritas, wine and beer.
Sun Valley Shimmers, a drag show meant for those 18 and older, will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at The Mint in Hailey. The show will feature performers from Boise and Portland, Ore., including Miss Jaxon, Coco Freeo, Miz Wafer and Tucker Wright. The event is hosted by Riley Burrows.
General admission is $35 for 18-21-year-olds and $45 for those older than 21.
VIP tables of four are available for $300 and include front row seating, a goody bag, appleteasers, Prosecco and a pre-show meet and greet at 7 p.m. with the performers.
Ticket holders are encouraged to enjoy dinner before the show downstairs at La Cabanita or at another nearby eatery. A full bar will be available upstairs during the show for those with valid ID. Nonalcoholic drinks also are available.
Tickets for the show, the bike raffle and the duck race are available at https://www.sbgarden.org/. Proceeds help maintain the five-acre Sawtooth Botanical Garden’s beautiful cultivated grounds, in addition to funding general operations.
A GoFundMe page is also accepting donations to offset costs.
“As always, we are so grateful to local law enforcement agencies for having our six so that we can all enjoy a
safe, fun, and inspirational time” said SBG executive director Jen Smith. “Pride is for everyone who is
supportive, and everyone is welcome.”
