STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

About 150 protestors turned out for the Free America rally held in Hailey Tuesday evening.

There’ll be another one—an ICE OUT FOR GOOD—NATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY—from 1 to 3 p.m. today--Friday, Jan. 23, at the traffic light at Main and Bullion streets in Hailey.

Protestors at the peaceful rally will be standing in unified opposition to ICE agents terrorizing communities in Minnesota, Maine, Texas, Oregon, California, Illinois and other states across the country, said Katja Burmester.

Thankfully, those who turn out today will not have to endure the minus-45 degree windchill that Minnesotans are experiencing.

Burmester said that those who so inclined are also asked to join Minnesotans in avoiding shopping or consumer spending for the day.

The protest follows the shooting by Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The pause in consumer spending is being done to showcase how many workers in Minnesota and elsewhere are afraid to go to work because of ICE agents showing up in restaurants, businesses and even schools.

President Trump and his White House initially characterized Renee Good, a mother of three, as a deranged lunatic who was engaged in domestic terrorism. Trump more recently referred to her death as a tragedy, saying that ICE agents are going to make mistakes.

COMMUNITY CONNECTION POTLUCK

A potluck for those who believe in the power of community connection is being held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at The Grange in Hailey.

Community members are invited to bring a dish to share. Organizers would love to have people text 208-309-2545 for a headcount. But everyone is encouraged to show up, regardless of whether they RSVP.

The Grange is located at 609 S. 3rd Ave., in Hailey next to the Hailey Fire Department.
