Greg Loomis has spent 42 years guiding anglers on Silver Creek and other waters in the Wood River Valley.
He became executive director of the Silver Creek Alliance in 2016. And on Wednesday he will offer a presentation talking abut the projects that have shaped Silver Creek, its ongoing restoration and future initiatives designed to enhance the creek’s health.
He will also discuss the fishing outlook, given current weather patterns and low snowpack.
Loomis will make his presentation at the March 4 Monthly Speaker Series of the Hemingway Chapter of Trout Unlimited. The presentation, open to the public, will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at The Argyros in Ketchum.
Loomis was among those who recognized the public’s need for transparent accessible information about Silver Creek’s condition in 2006. That led to the launch of https://savesilvercreek.com/ built to share data, increase awareness and rally community engagement.
During his tenure at the head of the Silver Creek Alliance, the Alliance began supporting the full restoration of Loving Creek, a key tributary. The project, which also involves The Nature Conservancy, Idaho Fish and Game, Trout Unlimited and landowners, aims to return Silver Creek to a resilient self-sustaining wild trout fishery.
