Members of the Wood River Nature Journal Club will showcase some of their work in a public reception at the Hailey Public Library on Saturday.

The reception will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Hailey Public Library. Refreshments will be served.

The Wood River Nature Journal Club was started in 2022 by Poo Wright-Pulliam and Kimber Traue.

Participants go out as a group into nature, in places like the Sawtooth Botanical Garden or Colorado Gulch. There, they paint or draw what they see, while documenting their observations, thoughts and experiences.

The idea is to enhance one’s appreciation of nature as they find new ways to trigger curiosity and inspire wonder.

“Nature journaling is not just about sketching. It’s about learning to take notes with good observation. No art ability is required,” said Wright-Pulliam.

The works on exhibit Saturday range from documenting the life-cycle of the honeybee to moon phases and wildlife at Redfish Lake utilizing watercolor techniques. A still-life will be available for those who would like to try watercolor painting.

The Nature Journal exhibit will remain on view at the Martyn Mallory art wall through the end of March.
