STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

Ski, bike and enjoy a Full Moon Community Dinner and bonfire on Wednesday night, Feb. 12.

The community event is sponsored by The Sage School in partnership with Backwoods Mountain Sports, Blaine County Recreation District and Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.

It starts at 5:30 pm at The Sage School campus in Quigley Canyon where there’ll be a chance for casual mingling and light snacks before heading out for a ski or fat bike ride. There will be a temporary connector from the Sage School Campus to the BCRD trails ONLY for this event. Participants are also welcome to start skiing from the BCRD Quigley trailhead and use the connector to slide over to the dinner and bonfire activities.

The BCRD is waiving trail passes for free moonlight skiing and biking between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. Free trail passes may be picked up at Sage School.

Backwoods Mountain Sports is providing a limited number of Nordic rentals free of charge.

Buffet dinner service starts at 6:30 p.m. Soup, salad and bread, with vegetarian options will be available for $12 a person. The cost for dinner is $10 a person for families of four or more. An array of desserts, including homemade Starr Barrs, cake breads and cookies will be available for $3 each.

There also will be kids’ activities available, including board games, the making of friendship bracelets and, of course, the all-important s’mores around the bonfire, which will be lit at 7:30 p.m.

It is not necessary to purchase dinner to take part in the event. But those who plan on having dinner can help organizers plan by registering for dinner at https://thesageschool.org/events/full-moon-community-dinner-ski-bike-bonfire/.

Sage School teacher Matt Leidecker said he is organizing the event in conjunction with BCRD, SVSEF and the Mental Well-Being Initiative as a means of bringing community together to socialize and get to know one another while participating in healthy activities and enjoying a healthy meal. It is being billed as the first annual.
