Miners began flocking out East Fork Road south of Ketchum when silver was discovered in 1883. What is commonly referred to as the Triumph Mine today proved indispensable during World War II. But it also saw tragedy in 1917 when an avalanche wiped out a two-story bunkhouse at 3:30 in the morning, killing at least 15 miners.
