The Trailing of the Sheep Festival will hold an Honoree & Artists’ Reception on Saturday, Oct. 8, to honor some of the key players in the festival, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
The reception will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the nexStage Theatre and will include lamb and other hors d’ouevres, plus wine and beer.
Honorees are the Faulkner and Peavey families, Joan Davies and Carol Waller.
Artists in attendance will include Hal Cannon, Carolyn Dufurrena, Pam Royes and the Hot Club of Cowtown.
The second part of the evening, which begins at 7 p.m. will feature A Celebration Performance & Honoree Awards. The show, will include Royes reading from her new memoir, “Temperance Creek” about her transition from hippie to sheepherder to outlaw; Dufurrena presenting a short film on sheep ranching life; and Dufurrena, Diane Peavey and Royes reading works from Robert Laxalt, Mark Kurlansky and Ivan Doig.
Cannon will perform sheep songs from the West; Txantxangorriak will perform Basque music and Hot Club of Cowtown will perform a few of their rollicking hits.
The evening will culminate beginning at 9:30 p.m. with the Sheepherders’ Ball, a dance party featuring Hot Club of Cowtown, which hails from Austin, Texas.
