Wanted: Enthusiastic golfers to take part in the second annual Swing Fore Recovery Golf Tournament.
The Wood River Valley affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-WRIV) is holding its golf tourney on Friday, Sept. 22, at Elkhorn Golf Club.
It will kick off with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and will include a scramble format with prizes awarded for best overall score, best hole and other competitions.
The golf tournament is a major way to raise money for NAMI’s programs, which include a peer support group and educational groups for families whose loved ones are dealing with mental health issues, said co-organizer C. Coddy Mays.
Last year’s inaugural tourney brought out 80 golfers and NAMI’s hoping to field more this year.
“The annual golf tournament is a lot of work, but there really is no better way to get outdoors, work on your game, be with friends all while supporting a great cause!” said Chris Koch, president of the board. “Additionally, it is an opportunity to show you care about standing with people with a mental condition and promote your organization as a stigma free organization.”
Cost is $500 for a foursome, $150 for single players with dinner included. It’s $50 for dinner only. Dinner starts at 7 p.m.
In memoriam and sponsor signage can be purchased for $100.
“It’s a lot of fun being at Elkhorn because it’s such a beautiful golf course,” said May. And we have lots of competitions within the tourney to make it fun.”
In addition, NAMI is raffling off a Sun Valley Challenger ski pass worth $2,200 and two $250 Atkinsons’ Markets gift cards.
Raffle tickets are $10 or three for $20 and can be purchased at Chapter One Bookstore in Ketchum, Iconoclast Books in Hailey and online at nami-wrv.org/golf.
