Motorists spoke up and the Idaho Transportation Department listened.
The speed limit between Hospital Drive to Elkhorn Road over the new Big Wood River Bridge will increase by 10 miles per hour on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
The revised speed limit follows an engineering traffic of three-quarters section of Idaho Highway 75 in that area. The new section of roadway improved roadway safety with the addition of a second lane in each direction and wider shoulders.
Law enforcement reviewed the engineering study results prior to approval.
The current 35 mile per hour speed limit will remain in effect until the new signs have been installed.
That section of road gets between 8,000 and 15,000 vehicles a day with volumes peaking in the summer, according to Nathan Jerke, public information specialist for the Transportation Department.
