Amateur astronomer Tim Frazier will introduce all-comers to the dark night sky at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden.
Frazier, president of the Magic Valley Astronomical Society, will start off with a basic night sky orientation inside the greenhouse. Then, he’ll move outside to observe “Oh Wow!” deep sky objects, early winter constellations and the planet Neptune.
Kristin Fletcher, the garden’s educational director, will share lore about constellations visible with the naked eye during the Astronomy at the Garden event.
Space is limited to 20 participants and advance registration is required. Cost is $10 for Sawtooth Botanical Garden members, $12 for nonmembers and free for children under 16.
Participants are advised to dress warmly and bring binoculars or spotting scopes if they have them. Frazier will have a few of his favorite telescopes on hand for participants to gaze through.
