The Sun Valley Summer Symphony is presenting two free film screenings to augment its 2018 season.
The first—“Amadeus”—will be shown at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, to complement this week’s In Focus Series concerts exploring the music of Mozart. The award winning film examines the life, death and music of Mozart, who died at 35, and it includes excerpts of some of the pieces being performed this week.
The second film—“West Side Story”—will be shown at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. It will honor the memory of composer Leonard Bernstein, who would have been 100 this year.
The symphony will perform the composer’s concert suite from that movie on Aug. 12. The movie, a romantic tragedy based on a gang war between the Jets and the Sharks, won the 1961 Academy Award for Best Picture.
The movie stars the late Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno and features such memorable tunes as “Tonight” and “I Want to Live in America.”
Both movies will be screened at Ketchum’s Community Library.
