You might call the City of Ketchum crazy.
But, after scraping 12 feet of snow off the streets during the month of February, the streets department is putting the snow back.
Onto East Avenue, at least.
The city is celebrating Sun Valley’s great ski season, this week’s Sun Valley Film Festival and the Western Region Championships taking place on Baldy by laying down a street full of snow on the so-called "East Avenue Park" for a day.
It’s all leading up to the Big Air Rail Jam and other activities beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, emceed by Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Coach Andy Gilbert.
The Big Air Rail Jam itself will start at 7 p.m. in front of the Ketchum Town Square with awards at 9 p.m. There’ll be a onesie contest with prizes like a cruiser bike and Yeti Cooler at 9:30 p.m. and music by DJ Locomotive and short films by Stellar Media throughout.
There’ll also be food and drink available for purchase and free hot chocolate provided by the City of Ketchum.
The event is designed to celebrate the spirit of Ketchum and valley residents’ love of the snow, the mountains and its athletes and the culture of Ketchum’s authentic ski town, said city officials.
The event is sponsored by the City of Ketchum, the Sun Valley Film Festival, Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, Stellar Media, Lunceford Excavation and volunteer ramp builders.
WHAT’S A ONESIE?
It’s one-piece clothing, be it pajamas, one-piece ski outfit, jumpsuit or even funskins—full spandex body suits.
