China has dominated the news lately and now Sun Valley residents get a front seat look at the global giant.
Weijian Shan, author of “Out of the Gobi: My Story of China,” will discuss the rags to riches story of the once-Sleeping Giant at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 23 at The Community Library. The talk will be Livestreamed at https://livestream.com/comlib
It’s the latest installment in the annual Judith and Marshall Meyer Lecture on China. And the first 50 people to register for the talk at https://thecommunitylibrary.libcal.com/event/7796548 will get a copy of Shan’s book.
Shan will examine how the Chinese economy grew 36 times in 30 years and he will discuss whether China can sustain its growth during Wednesday’s talk.
Shan comes with a unique perspective, having spent several years working as a laborer in the Gobi Desert of China.
He is chairman and CEO of PAG, a leading Asia-focused private equity firm. Prior to that he was a partner in TPG Asia, where he led a number of landmark transactions that returned billions of dollars in profit to his firms’ investors.
Previously, he was a managing director of JP Morgan and an assistant professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to “Out of the Gobi,” he is the author of “Money Games: The inside Story of How American Dealmakers Saved Korea’s Most Iconic Bank.”
