STORY AND PHOTO BY KAREN BOSSICK

The Hailey Public Library and Mountain Rides will host a free Halloween-themed Bike Rodeo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the new Hailey Town Square behind the library.

Children are encouraged to bring a bike and helmet—there’s no registration required. Older children can choose to participate in a short, guided ride on the bike path at 12:30 p.m., if they like.

The Bike Rodeo is one of a few Halloween-themed events on Saturday.

  • The Sun Valley Museum of Arts is hosting a Dia de los Muertos celebration featuring special altars, traditional music and traditional food provided by The Hunger Coalition from 1 to 4 p.m. at its Hailey House, 314 Second Ave. S., in Hailey.
  • Adults are invited to turn out for Nightmare on Main Street from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in Ketchum.

There’ll be music and a costume contest will be held at 10 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for scariest, sexiest, most creative, best group and best overall.

  • Those who prefer to stay home are invited to crank up the fire to ward off the chills from Nevermore Nights.

The Liberty Theatre Company is presenting free filmed readings from the works of Edgar Allen Poe, available online at bit.ly/nevermorenights. The classics to be aired are The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Black Cat” and “The Raven.”

HALLOWEEN HOOPLA AND TRUNK OR TREAT TODAY

Don’t forget—merchants will shower youngsters with candy from 3 to 5 p.m. today—Friday, Oct. 29—in Hailey’s downtown. A costume contest will be held throughout the time at the new Hailey Town Square.

And Bellevue will hold its Trunk or Treat from 3 to 5 p.m. today on the bike path near the Bellevue Library.
