Jim Caldwell, who has long had a relationship with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts—now the Sun Valley Museum of Art--will discuss his 66 years as an artist on Tuesday.

Caldwell, an architect, teacher and art historian, will discuss his life’s work at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at The Community Library.

The talk is being presented in partnership with the Sun Valley Museum of Art where Caldwell is teaching a week-long class on Line and Color.

Caldwell, who studied art at Williams College and at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, has spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay area. Armed with a Master of Architecture Degree from the Yale School of Architecture, he took a hiatus from art to work as an architect. But he started painting actively again 40 years ago and has accumulated an impressive body of work.

His paintings are featured in more than 500 collections worldwide. And he has had 50 solo shows and another 50 group shows.

He is known for his expressive watercolor, oil and drawing depictions of California landscapes, coastal scenes and other natural environments. And he has authored and illustrated such coffee table books as “The Golden Coast,” “From Big Sur to the Russian Rier” and “The Golden Coast, Landscapes at the Edge of the Continent.”

The Sun Valley Museum of Art and the family of Adam West will offer a free tour of his Batman exhibit at 5:30 p.m. tonight—Aug. 4—at the Forest Service Park in Ketchum. The exhibit, full of Batman memorabilia, runs through Aug. 14.
