Take a gander at some of the “Hidden Gems” that art enthusiasts in the  Sun Valley area and surrounding area have collected when Sun Valley Museum of Art holds an opening celebration for its newest exhibition tonight—Friday, Dec. 19.

The free Exhibition Celebration for “Hidden Gems: Idaho Collects” will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. tonight—Friday, Dec. 19—at the Sun Valley Museum of Art, Fifth and Washington streets in Ketchum.

It will feature significant artworks by such international renowned artists as Cristo, Andy Warhol, Helen Frankenthaler, David Hockney, ed Ruscha, William Wiley and others.

“This exhibition reveals some of the real gems in our Valley—from a fantastic 1957 Milton Avery painting to an incredible sculpture by Teresita Fernandez and several works by LA artist Ed Ruscha,” said Jennifer Wells Green, executive director at SVMoA. “Getting to know our community through the art they make and collect has been one of the great joys of my time here. I’m truly grateful to all our lenders who have generously shared these treasures so our entire community can experience them.”

Several interesting themes emerged among the collections, said

“Some of these include late-20th-century work by California-based artists, Minimalism and Light & Space, and work by artists interested in expanding our understanding of landscape, nature, and the environment,” she said. “The exhibition gives viewers the chance to explore these themes and ideas through conversations between artworks by some of the most prominent artists of our era.”

The exhibition runs through Feb. 26.
