Ten Wood River Valley students spent their first day of Thanksgiving break competing in the District IV drama tournament at College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.
Holden Blair was crowned District Champion in Solo Audition. Piper Kolb and Madi Flannigan got second place for an Original Humorous Ensemble they had written. Asia Angel placed second for Original Serious Ensemble she wrote. And Piper Kolb got third place for an Original Solo Pantomine.
Several of the students will now compete at state in Coeur d’Alene on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3.
Coaches were Karl Nordstrom, the Wood River High School Drama and Speech teacher; Cathy Reinheimer, Nancy Harakay and Melodie Mauldin.
The participants:
- Holden Blair: District Champion in Solo Audition
- Piper Kolb and Madi Flannigan: 2nd place for Original Humorous Ensemble (written by Kolb and Flannigan)
- Asia Angel from Sage School: 2nd place for Original Serious Ensemble (written by Angel)
- Piper Kolb: Third place for Original Solo Pantomime (concept by Kolb)
- Asia Angel and Elena Tamayo: Fourth place for Original Humorous Ensemble and state qualifier (written by Angel)
- Elena Tamayo: Alternate to state for Solo Audition (placed 8th out of 19)
- Eva Hatzenbuehler: Alternate to state for Solo Musical (placed 8th out of 22)
- Aimsley Shearer and Eva Hatzenbuehler placed 9th out of 18 in Humorous Ensemble
- Aimsley Shearer also placed 10th out of 19 in Solo Audition
- Sophia McKnight placed 7th out of 15 in Original Solo Serious.
