Skinny skiers rejoice!
The Sawtooth Ski Club is purchasing two ATV tracked grooming machines—one for the Park Creek ski trails and the other for the trails at Alturas.
They use the same grooming implements that the older snow machines use, and groomers plan to use them along with the snow machines. They hope to have the ATVs on board by Christmas.
The Stanley Basin has not gotten as much early snowfall as the Wood River Basin side of Galena Pass so a little more snow is needed to begin grooming.
But Sawtooth Ski Club members expect the snow to come. And with that in mind, they’ve scheduled the 21st Annual Sawtooth Ski Festival for March 4-5. The chili feed and poker run at Park Creek will be held on Saturday, March 4, and the Soup Kitchen on Sunday, March 5 at Alturas.
While the Ross Fork Fire burned up to the south side of Alturas Lake, it did not impact the cross-country ski trails there.
Skiers can use the trails by leaving a donation at the trailheads.
