Wood River Valley residents will stand in solidarity with Idaho Vandals throughout the state when they hold a Candlelight Vigil to commemorate four University of Idaho students who were murdered while they slept.
The vigil will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Ketchum Town Square. It is being held the same evening as a vigil on the Administration Lawn of the University of Idaho in Moscow.
The slaying of the four young people has left the small university town rattled as police have not identified a suspect or a motive. Little information has been provided in the handful of press conferences they have held since the murders on Nov. 13.
Police so far have collected 113 pieces of evidence, taken 4,000 crime photos and made several 3-D scans of the home but have not yet found the murder weapon. They’ve reviewed 260 digital media submissions from the community.
The university allowed students to go home early for Thanksgiving Break, given the circumstances. And students are being allowed to finish out the semester online, if they wish, instead of in-person.
The state has committed a million dollars of emergency funds to assist with the investigation.
And one university alum raised $18,000 to give sorority residents personal safety alarm key chains that sound an alarm and flash a light when pulled apart. The alum hopes to raise enough on the Facebook page Do Good-University of Idaho to equip female residents in dorms with She’s Birdies alarms, as well.
