Oftentimes, Sun Valley employees are working around the clock to cover Dollar Mountain with snow in time for an early December opening.
Not this year. You can imagine the little ski hill has been chomping at the bit to join in the fun what with a few feet of natural snow that colored it white without the assistance of snowmaking machines.
Finally, Dollar Mountain gets its day in the sun as it opens for the season on Friday, Dec. 9.
Friday is, apparently, a soft opening. The real fun begins Saturday, Dec. 10, as there’ll be music, games, giveaways and an appearance by Sunny the Bear.
The skiing should be good, judging by the conditions on Bald Mountain. Soft powdery conditions and pleasant skiing conditions despite single-digit starts to the day have put smiles on everyone’s faces.
No surprise--the median snowpack at Chocolate Gulch is currently 204 percent for this date!
