Magic Lantern Cinema in Ketchum is toasting the holidays and the 75th anniversary of Frank Capra’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” with several screenings of the classic film.
“I’ve always wanted to show the movie during the holiday season but have always been thwarted due to inability to get the rights to do it or the costs,” said theater owner Rick Kessler. “Now Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies have teamed up to make this terrific film available as part of their series of Big Screen Classics.”
The film will play at 4 and 6:50 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, Dec. 18-21. Tickets are $6.
In case you’ve forgotten, the film centers around George Bailey, played by Jimmy Stewart, and his wife played by Donna Reed. He’s a man with big dreams and even bigger disappointments. When he reaches the end of his rope, an angel who has yet to receive his wings shows George that life is, in fact, worth living.
The film was nominated for five Oscars and has been recognize by the American Film Institute as one of the 100 Best American Films ever made. It also was named most inspirational American film of all time by the AFI.
The film is notable for its ability to get people to laugh, weep and remember that “no man is a failure who has friends,” said Kessler.
