STORY BY KAREN BOSSICK PHOTOS BY JOHN BOYDSTON John Boydston took up photography only 10 years ago. And he figured he would soon tire of shooting the same places and events. But he discovered, as many others have discovered, that there’s always something new under the Sun Valley skies.

The Boulder Mountains never look the same twice as the lighting is always different. A field of wildflowers takes on a new appearance a day later as new wildflowers pop up to join the former. Even a ski run never resembles the run it was just 15 minutes earlier as the swish of skis creates miniature moguls where there weren’t any. Boydston has learned that photographing the wildlife, the landscape and the events, such as the Dollar Mountain Pond Skim, have added another dimension to life in Sun Valley. And he has graciously shared some of his favorites from the past year--taken with a full-frame mirrorless camera and a medium format camera--with Eye on Sun Valley readers to remind us of the beauty that surrounds us and the vibrancy that we enjoy here.

John Boydston was stargazing when he took this long-exposure shot as the trees on the driving range at Big Wood Golf Course were illuminated by a passing 18-wheeler.

Have a very happy, very blessed New Year’s. And keep your eyes open for the magic that John finds in his surroundings.
