A couple of moose added to the holiday crowd in Ketchum Sunday afternoon.
Ketchum resident Jean Enersen spotted the two wandering among the shops along Washington Street about 3 p.m. People stopped their cars to gawk as the moose went from corner to corner.
“The baby looked very thin. Baby was leading Mama around,” she said.
With Christmas shopping over, it’s difficult to figure out what they might have been looking for. Maybe they decided the city streets were easier to navigate than chest-deep snow in the backcountry, even with the icy conditions that materialized after frozen slush piled up on Ketchum’s streets and sidewalks during Tuesday’s slush storm.
They may be the same two moose who have been frequenting Lower River Run at Sun Valley ski resort this winter. Maybe they just decided they needed a break from the people, with holiday crowds approaching 8,000 skiers and boarders a day.
Or, maybe like Enersen suggested, they were just looking for parking—like the rest of us.
