Sun Valley doesn’t resemble Hawaii right now in any way shape or form.
But grab the leis and other Hawaiian garb, anyway, and get ready for Dollar Dayz 2023.
Dollar Mountain is getting ready to close despite more snow than the mountain knows what to do with. Sun Valley has recorded more than 280 inches on the year and is sitting at 140 percent of average snowpack.
The fact that Dollar Mountain is closing means it’s time for the Cold Bowl Pond Skim to close out the season there on Sunday, March 26.
The ski patrol will build a pond near Dollar Mountain Lodge. And everyone is invited to don a costume and test their waterskiing abilities on those fat powder skis and snowboards.
Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a family scavenger hunt, BBQ and the Pond Skim. Pre-registration is required for the Pond Skim this year at https://forms.zohopublic.com/sunvalleysnowsports/form/EventRegistration/formperma/M7MRuHGrydK4i-Kqiy_A5BpBrnvRBtOlK0qUFVehONA
Right now, the weatherman is calling for mostly sunny and a high of 29. That’s a far cry from the 44-degree average highs Sun Valley normally gets in March and good reason to skim all the way across the pond instead of sinking in the middle!
Overflow parking will be available in the Pavilion Lot with continuous shuttle provided to the lodge beginning at 8:30 a.m.
