Innovative flamenco blending traditional and contemporary stylings will take the stage of The Argyros next week when Barcelona Flamenco Ballet presents “New Time/Flamenco Reborn.”
The show fuses three dance styles—jazz, cotemporary and flamenco. And the dancers will establish the concept of being reborn as they build up a rhythm, break it, then begin again, the rhythm reborn.
Barcelona Flamenco Ballet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, at The Argyros. Tickets are $10 and $20, available at https://theargyros.org/calendar/barcelona-flamenco-ballet-2/
“We present you an intimate and innovative show, which takes a look back in time in flamenco, reconstructing dance and music in the new era of flamenco,” said David Gutierrez, who doubles as dancer and manager.
Barcelona Flamenco Ballet was created in 2017 by David Gutierrez to offer new opportunities for flamenco artists from the city of Barcelona. And it developed a new concept in the art of flamenco, blending it with other innovative music and dance.
The company has established itself as one of the flamenco companies of reference after successes in the best opera houses, festivals and theatres in the world, said Gutierrez.
“Our company works actively to give the opportunity to young promises of the performing arts in Catalonia,” said Gutierrez. “We make an annual selection of personnel with previous artistic training. We bet on a young but highly qualified cast to show their art in the elite of the performing arts in the world.
“We have worked to establish ourselves as one of the leading dance companies in Europe and the world, obtaining recognition from local, federal and international governments,” he added.
Barcelona Flamenco Ballet is no stranger to Sun Valley. The group performed a show in April 2022 that was billed as “sexy, scandalous and shocking” for a sold-out audience at The Argyros.
The company is currently made up of more than 40 dancers, musicians, technical staff and production team members. A team of five--a guitarist, singer, flautist/saxophonist and two dancers will appear on the stage of The Argyros.
“We are very excited to be back for another year at Argyros Performing Arts, and we will be rejoining the sold-out audiences of last year's sold-out show,” said Gutierrez. “We offer all Ketchum audiences an unforgettable evening, which they will never forget.”
