Learn what causes youth angst and the ways they think caring adults can help when St. Luke’s Wood river’s Center for Community Health hosts a youth panel on Thursday, May 18.

The panel, “What Caring Adults Need to Know,” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at the Wood River Performing Arts Theater at the Community Campus in Hailey. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. so participants can engage with representatives of organizations that offer resources to teens. Free pizza will be served during that time.

Tyler Norris, who has a Mastery of Divinity, will facilitate the discussion about the challenges teens face and what they need from supportive adults to help them thrive. Spanish interpretation will be available.

The event, and the pizza, is free to all. No need to register. It’s recommended for those 13 and up as sensitive topics will be covered.

“The purpose of this panel is to give youth a voice.  We want to empower them to speak up and tell the adults in their lives what they need from us and how we can show up better for them. We hope parents will attend, bring their teens and that the panel will help with having these important conversations at home,” said Sarah Seppa, director of Community Engagement and manager of the Center for Community Health.

Improving mental health in communities served by St. Luke’s Health System was a top priority identified through a community health needs assessments that hospital officials conducted.

In response, St. Luke’s Wood River hosted a screening of Ken Burns’ “Hiding in Plain Sight: Youth Mental Illness” in October 2022, following it up with a community conversation. Attendees at that event said they wanted to hear directly from the community’s youth about what they’re experiencing and what they need.
