The sign on the highway—normally a cautionary one—was one of celebration Monday morning.
“Yay! Sun Valley Road is open!” it said.
Indeed, nearly three months after digging up the pavement near the iconic Sun Valley barn, creating a convoluted detour just in time for Easter activities at Sun Valley Resort and local churches, crews paved the short stretch of road on Friday.
And the end result was a beaut with a newly paved bike path outfitted in green in its mission to divert bicyclists from Sun Valley Road to 4th Street.
But, wait! There’s more.
The City of Ketchum has painted a few of its crosswalks on Sun Valley Road, offering some color and vitality to the area.
Ketchum Mayor Neil Bradshaw says Ketchum Artist Molly Snee and others endowed the crosswalks with lotus flowers, trout, horseshoes and hiking boot prints.
If people like them--and if motorists aren’t so busy checking out the art that they miss the pedestrians in the crosswalks--the city could paint other crosswalks in the future, he said.
