Blaine County ranks as the wealthiest county of Idaho’s 44 with a median income of $71,749. No surprise there.
Next door is one of the state’s poorest counties.
Camas County is the fifth poorest county in the state with a median income of $37,367. The county has investment income of $19,400 and a median home value of $318,840.
Blaine County’s investment income is $152,329 and its median home value, $862,566.
The determinations were made by the financial website SmartAsset using tax records, census data and Zillow information.
The other four wealthiest counties in Idaho are Teton County with a median income of $75,837; Valley County with a median income of $67,528; Ada County with a median income of $75,155 and Kootenai County with a median income of $64,936.
The poorest county in the state is Clark County in east Idaho followed by Shoshone County in north Idaho, Lewis County and Butte County.
Teton County, Wyo.—home to Jackson--is the richest county in American on an income per tax return basis. The average tax return in the county has $214,800 in income with the majority of the $3.05 billion earned in the county coming from investments.
The other wealthiest counties in America are New York County, better known as Manhattan; Marin County, Calif.; San Mateo County, Calif., and Santa Clara County, Calif.
Number six is Fairfield County, Conn., followed by Westchester County, N.Y.; Falls Church, Va.; San Francisco County, Calif., and Summit County, Utah, home to Park city. Pitkin, Colo. ranks 17th.
