A free cultural event paying homage to the Peruvian tradition in the Wood River Valley will be held from noon to 3 p.m. today--Saturday, Aug. 12--at the Sawtooth Botanical Garden.
Pachamanca, a traditional Peruvian dish typically baked in an underground hot stone barbecue, will be served. The dish has been prepared by Andean people since the time of the Incas.
Men will dig a hole in the ground to create an earth oven, then add rocks that will cook the pig when hot. Community members are invited to join in with the preparations, which will begin about 9 a.m.
There also will be a bouncy house and other family-friendly activities.
The event is being hosted by The Community Table, Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Jhony’s Peruvian Restaurant.
