Sun Valley residents have not been twiddling their thumbs this summer.
Several tennis players are on their way to the Intermountain Sectionals in Dener after crushing other teams at the USTA Idaho District tennis competition held recently in Idaho Falls.
And Miles Stanislaw of Sun Valley recently won the Nationals Slalom Water Ski Tourney, making him No. 1 in the country at the young age of 80.
The tennis team composed of players 55 and older beat out 11 other teams--seven teams from Boise, three from Idaho Falls and Pocatello and one other Sun Valley team to win the District Championship.
“It was a strong finish,” said Alma Campanale “We won eight of nine.”
The team will represent Idaho at the sectional championships in Denver in September where it will compete against teams from Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming and Montana.
Team captains Alma Campanale and Heidi Mickelson also were on a Sun Valley team that won the national championship in 2015. Other team members are Barbara Figge, Kris Miller, Lori Nurge, Brandy Horwitz and Heather Coulthard.
Martha Hausmann was not able to play in the district meet but will be joining the team at the Sectional Championships in Denver the weekend of September 15.
“It feels great to have won the District Championship again,” said Campanale. “Now, more work ahead.”
